During the two-day early voting period, 11,072,310 voters castballots ahead of the official presidential election day on May 9,according to the National Election Commission.
It took up 26.06 percent of the country's combined 42,479,710voters.
The unusually high rate of early voting heralded a heavy turnouton the official election date.

Moon Jae-in of the biggest Minjoo Party, a clear frontrunner inrecent months, garnered 42.4 percent of support in the last opinionsurvey by local pollster Realmeter before the election day.
Under the election law, no opinion polls conducted after Tuesdaycan be published. The last survey was based on a poll of 1,016voters conducted from Monday to Tuesday.
Ahn Cheol-soo of the centrist People's Party and Hong Joon-pyoof the former ruling Liberty Korea Party tied for the second with asupport rate of 18.6 percent.
The early voting system was first introduced in 2013. The earlyvoting rate posted 11.5 percent in the 2014 local elections and12.2 percent in the 2016 general elections respectively.
