NAIROBI， Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Former world marathon record holder， Wilson Kipsang， has said he will attempt to lower the world marathon record at the Berlin Marathon scheduled for September 25， two years after he lost it in 2014.
The Kenyan runner， who set the world mark of 2.03:23 at the 2013 Berlin Marathon， lost the world record to his fellow countryman Dennis Kimetto， who lowered it to 2.02:57 at the 2014 Berlin Marathon.
"I still have the capacity to make a second attempt in the world record. This year， I saw that my body looks very well，" Kipsang said during an interview with Xinhua in Iten， a town in western Kenya famous for its running community.
Kipsang， 34， said he was focused on the preparation for the impending race which his is familiar with and where almost all the past world marathon records have been lowered.
"I know what I did to lower the world record in 2013 and I think I still have the capacity this time，" Kipsang said.
Like many other Kenyan athletes， Kipsang honed his running skills during his childhood when he had to run to and from primary school located som 8 km away from home in a village not far from Iten.
"Running to school for 10 years continuously， I believe， was much of training，" he said.
After secondary school， Kipsang turned to professional running after he was motivated by his mentor， Paul Tergat， who held the world marathon record between 2003 and 2007.
Kipsang said he would watch the Rio Olympic marathon race and hopes the Kenyan team will sweep all the medals.
He was speaking at his hotel， Keelu Resort. "I built this facility from the proceeds of running，" he said.
"After training， I find time to come to my office at the hotel to attend to friends， workers and customers，" he added.
Kipsang donates to charity and also assists children， schools and the needy in society as a way of giving back to community.
Kipsang is also the president of the Professional Athletes Association of Kenya， which was instrumental in streamlining Athletics Kenya， the governing body for the sport of athletics in Kenya which for a long time was mired in a state of mismanagement.
He is a past winner of 14 international road races across the globe including the elite New York， London (twice)， Berlin， and Frankfurt Marathons.
"For me running is a passion and I will continue doing so for as long as my legs will be unwilling to carry me，" he said.
Kipsang said he believes the world record will one day dip below the two-hour mark， although it will take a long time.
"Only 30 seconds separate the current world record with the sub-two-hour mark. It will not be surpassed at an instant， but will be done progressively and this will take a long time，" he said.
GUIYANG Cheap Nike Air Force 1 , July 23 (Xinhua) -- Technicians began assembling the world's largest radio telescope, whose dish is the size of 30 football grounds, deep in the mountains of southwest China's Guizhou Province on Thursday.
In the afternoon, technicians began to assemble the telescope's reflector Nike Air Force 1 Sale , which is 500 meters in diameter and made up of 4,450 panels. Each panel is an equilateral triangle with a side length of 11 meters.
Once completed, the single-aperture spherical telescope called "FAST" will be the world's largest, overtaking Puerto Rico's Arecibo Observatory Nike Air Force 1 Blue , which is 300 meters in diameter.
Nan Rendong, chief scientist of the FAST project with the National Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, told Xinhua that the bigger the dish is Nike Air Force 1 Red , the more capable the telescope is and the weaker messages it will receive.
"A radio telescope is like a sensitive ear, listening to tell meaningful radio messages from white noise in the universe. It is like identifying the sound of cicadas in a thunderstorm," he said.
With a perimeter of about 1.6 km, it will take about 40 minutes to walk around the telescope.
The giant dish is built upon a naturally-formed bowl-like valley in the southern part of Guizhou.
"There are three hills about 500 meters away from one another Nike Air Force 1 Black , creating a valley that is perfect to support the telescope," said Sun Caihong, chief engineer of FAST's construction, explaining the reason why this site was chosen.
The Karst formation in the local landscape is good for draining rainwater underground and protecting the reflector Nike Air Force 1 White , Sun said.
The surrounding area has "radio silence" as there are no towns and cities within a sphere of five km and only one county center within a sphere of 25 km, he said.
The huge dish is actually hung over the ground supported by thousands of steel pillars and cables. There will be maintenance passages under it.
To overlook the whole reflector, visitors have to climb up to the top of one of the hills. A hill-top observation platform is under construction and will be open to the public, Sun said.
Not only will it be huge Nike Air Force 1 Off White , the new telescope is also very sensitive.
The dish can shift to receive radio from different angles, said Zheng Yuanpeng, chief engineer of the telescope's panel project.
"Panels can change their positions through connected wires and parallel robots. We can control their position with an accuracy of 1 mm," Zheng said.
The new telescope is expected to greatly enhance Chinese scientists' capacity to observe outer space.

"Having a more sensitive telescope, we can receive weaker and more distant radio messages. It will help us to search for intelligent life outside of the galaxy and explore the origins of the universe," Wu said.
The construction of the telescope began in March 2011 and is set to finish next year.
