PHNOM PENH， March 23 (Xinhua) -- A Cambodian court on Thursday gave a life imprisonment to a man who allegedly murdered political analyst Kem Ley in Phnom Penh on July 10 last year， according to a verdict.
The man， who was arrested shortly after the murder， identified himself as Chuob Samlab， which translates in English as "Meet Kill." He was charged with premeditated murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
"The court decided to sentence Chuob Samlab， 39， to life in prison，" said the verdict pronounced by Phnom Penh Municipal Court's Presiding Judge Leang Samnath.
Chuob Samlab was taken inside the courtroom to hear his verdict amidst tight security.
During a hearing on March 1， Chuob Samlab， a former migrant worker in Thailand， confessed to the crime， claiming that Kem Ley cheated him out of 3，000 U.S. dollars in 2015.
He said Kem Ley promised to offer him a job and to build him a house when he gave him 3，000 U.S. dollars， but the 46-year-old political analyst did not honor his promises.
"I killed him because he cheated me，" Chuob Samlab told the court. "I did it alone; no one hired me to kill him."
He said he bought a pistol from a Thai man at the price of 45，000 Thai Baht (1，284 U.S. dollars) in mid-April 2016 and traveled to Phnom Penh in early July 2016 in order to kill Kem Ley.
He added that he found Kem Ley in a Star Mart store at a gas station in Phnom Penh and fired two shots at his head and neck at point-blank range.

SYDNEY， Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Australia's flag carrier Qantas Airways Ltd's fatality free record in the jet age means it is the world's safest airline， for the fourth year running.
Ratings website AirlineRatings announced the carrier atop its Top 20 list on Friday， ahead of Cathy Pacific， Middle-eastern giant Etihad Airways， Singapore Airlines and local rival Virgin Australia.
While those in the Top 20， which are only listed alphabetically， are always leaders in safety， the website's editor Geoffrey Thomas said Qantas remains the leader in safety enhancement sand operational excellence.
"Over its 96-year history Qantas has amassed an amazing record of firsts in safety and operations and is accepted as the world's most experienced airline，" Thomas said in a statement.
"Qantas has been the lead airline in virtually every major operational safety advancement over the past 60 years."
Qantas was the leader in the Future Air Navigation System， the Flight Data Recorder， which was developed by Australia's chief scientific body the CSIRO， to monitor plane and crew performance， as well as advances in automatic landings and precision approaches in mountainous regions.
The flag carrier was also the lead in real-time monitoring of its engines across its fleet using satellite communications， enabling problems to be detected before they become a major safety issue， the ratings website said.
The real time monitoring allowed Qantas to confirm its flagship Airbus A380 Nancy Bird Walton was still flying after initial media speculation the fabled QF32 on Nov. 4 2010 had crashed after a mid-air explosion in one of its engines.
The seasoned pilots at the controls managed to return to and make an emerging landing at Singapore with damage to its wing， fuel system， landing gear， flight controls， controls for another engine， preventing what could have been the world's worst aviation disaster.
